Jennifer Seafield filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court in Illinois against Warren Park Health and Living Center after her 51-year-old mother, Jean Engstrom, committed suicide by drowning herself in the bath tub.

According to the lawsuit, Jean Engstrom committed suicide on July 4, 2010 after expressing suicidal thoughts to the staff at the nursing home. The lawsuit says the facility failed to properly monitor Jean Engstrom even though they knew she was suicidal. Police were called to Warren Park Health and Living Center after staff found Engstrom in the bathtub. She was transported to St. Francis Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The autopsy results are inconclusive as to whether the death was an accident, homicide, or suicide.

Seafield filed court documents requesting approval of a settlement of $102,500 which includes $35,007 in attorney’s fees. If the court approves the settlement, Seafield would get about $67,000.
