Mary Thompson, daughter of Patricia Blakeslee and Robert Blakeslee has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Rex and Robertina Putney, owners of Woodlake Senior Care, an eight bed nursing home facility in Woodlake California.

The lawsuit claims that Robert was admitted to the facility in Feb. 2009.  In June 2009 he was transported to a local hospital where he was “found to be extremely dirty … ants crawling on his skin.” He had a fever, he had an infection on his face and abrasions on his arms and hands with some swelling. He had skin ulcerations, including one so deep and large the bone was visible. He was dehydrated, severely malnourished, had a urinary tract infection, and his wounds were infected. He remained at Kaweah Delta hospital until his death in January 2010.

The lawsuit also says that Patricia was admitted to Woodlake Senior Care with her husband for diabetes and dementia. In April 2009 she was transferred to Kaweah Delta with severe swelling and blistering of her feet, ulcerations on her calf, and a wound on her left ankle that exposed her Achilles tendon. In June, her leg had to be amputated above the knee.

The lawsuit claims that “Throughout his time at Woodlake Senior Care, defendants failed to provide necessary care and protection to Robert Blakeslee, failed to report changes in his condition to his physicians and family, and retained and provided care to him later than such care was allowed by statute……The pattern of substandard care and neglect to Robert Blakeslee to put him at extremely high risk for the development of severe wounds and resulting complications, including his ultimate death.”

It goes on to state that “At all times relevant, Defendants … knew of Patricia Blakeslee’s declining condition and critical need to monitor and treat her condition properly and … failed to provide property custodial care … despite her worsening condition,” the lawsuit stated. “The Defendant’s conduct was reckless and in conscious disregard for Patricia Blakeslee’s rights and safety.”

The lawsuit charges among many other things, wrongful death, elder abuse and negligence and seeks special and punitive damages in excess of $25,000. disclaimer: This article: Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed in Elder Abuse Case was posted on Tuesday, May 31st, 2011 at 6:26 pm at and is filed under Nursing Home Abuse Lawsuits.
