Takeda, Eli Lilly Sued For Actos Bladder Cancer Risks

Tommy G. Thompson and Lua Thompson have filed a lawsuit against Takeda Pharmaceuticals North America Inc., Takeda Global Research & Development Center Inc., Takeda Pharmaceuticals Company Ltd., Takeda Pharmaceuticals America Inc., Takeda San Diego Inc., Takeda Pharmaceuticals International Inc., and Eli Lilly and Co., in New Orleans federal court, alleging that the company did not warn consumers that the diabetes drug Actos increased the risk of bladder cancer when taken for more than 12 months.

In the lawsuit, Thompson claims that he suffered injury due to taking Actos, and that Takeda concealed that the increased risk of bladder cancer.

The lawsuit seeks actual damages for pain and suffering, ascertainable economic losses, costs of obtaining Actos, medical expenses, loss of consortium, interest, costs, expenses and attorney fees, The Louisiana Record has reported. The lawsuit also requests a jury trial.
