Three veterans service organizations (VSOs), including Swords to Plowshares and Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA), have filed a lawsuit against the Department of Defense, the Army, and the CIA on behalf of thousands of soldiers who were subjected to chemical and biological weapons testing while at Edgewood Arsenal and Fort Detrick, Maryland.

According to the lawsuit, which seeks class action status, the military tested hundreds of biological substances and chemical on thousands of solders over the course of five decades. The lawsuit also says that the military did not conduct medical surveillance follow-up of the soldiers, and have routinely denied disability claims made by soldiers who were involved in the testing.

The lawsuit does not seek any monetary damages, instead seeks to require the military to notify all test subjects regarding what chemicals they were exposed to, as well as the dosage used, how the chemicals were administered, and information on the effects of the chemicals. The lawsuit also wants the federal government to provide healthcare coverage for veterans who are suffering illness related to the testing.
