Second Contaminated Cantaloupe Lawsuit Filed

Juanita Gomez of Angleton, Texas has filed a personal injury and negligence lawsuit in Brazoria County District Court against Jensen Farms after she developed a 105-degree fever and had to be hospitalized from eating cantaloupe. Blood tests revealed that Gomez was sickened by the same strain of listeria linked to the Jensen Farm outbreak.

According to the lawsuit, Gomez suffered gastrointestinal problems for weeks, was unable to eat a normal diet, lost significant weight and had persistent fatigue.

Jensen Farms of Colorado issued a voluntary recall of Rock Ford cantaloupes due to possible listeria contamination last week. The strain is one of four linked to the multi-state outbreak which has sickened 55 people in 14 states, and killed eight, Chron.com reported.
