Propecia Lawsuit Filed Over Sexual Side Effects
Date Published: Friday, October 21st, 2011
An unidentified man in Colorado has filed a lawsuit in U. S. District Court of Colorado against Propecia manufacturer Merck & Co., alleging the hair loss drug caused permanent sexual injury including erectile dysfunction.
The lawsuit, filed this month, says that after using Propecia, the plaintiff suffered anxiety, depression, decreased libido, decreased semen output, loss of sexual sensation, erectile dysfunction, and testicular pain.
Merck is facing a growing number of lawsuits claiming Propecia causes sexual side effects. The company has warned consumers of other countries that the side effects of Propecia may be permanent; however, in the US, Merck has played down those risks, and suggests that any side effects caused by Propecia will resolve when patients stop taking the drug.
The lawsuit accuses Merck & Co., of failure to warn, negligence, defective product design and manufacture, breach of warranty, and misrepresentation. The lawsuit seeks compensatory damages for mental anguish, emotional distress, pain and suffering, medical expenses and disfigurement, and requests the court to require Merck to return all revenue obtained through the development, marketing and sales of Propecia.
