Jacqueline Martin, 45, has been awarded $120 million in a medical malpractice lawsuit brought by her mother against three New York hospitals and one neurologist after Martin was left incapacitated and brain damaged following a series of hospital visits back in 2004.

According to the New York Times, Jacobi Medical Center was 50 percent responsible, Kings County Hospital Center was 40 percent responsible, while 5 percent of the responsibility went to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, and 4 percent was put on a neurologist. Martin herself was given one percent of the responsibility for her injuries, however her attorney feels that was a ‘quirk’ made by jury misunderstanding.

Irish Central news reports that Martin went to the hospital after seizure where she was given anti-seizure meds that cause an allergic reaction, which caused her to go into cardiac arrest, causing brain damage. Martin, the mother of two children, was left incapacitated and requires 24-hour care.
