NY Class Action Filed Against Adidas over Barefoot Running Shoes

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

Joseph Rocco has filed a class action lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York against Adidas America Inc alleging that adiPure  barefoot running shoes do not decrease the risk of injury nor do they increase training efficiency as advertised.

The class action lawsuit says that the adiPure shoes actually increase the risk of damage and bruising to the foot because they have less padding and structural support than regular running shoes. The suit says that Adidas failed to adequately warn consumers about the potential risks, and as a result, he alleges he suffered compound fractures while training in the adiPure shoes.

Though this is believed to be the first lawsuit filed against Adidas, Vibram, the manufacturer of the FiveFingers barefoot running shoe, was sued over similar claims including that the shoes did not live up to the health benefits promoted by the company.

The lawsuit seeks class action status, statutory damages and a refund for purchase of the shoes.
