Police in New York say a convicted rapist has been charged with the sexual abuse of a 91-year-old woman after he fondled her in the nursing home where the victim lives and where he works as a maintenance employee.

Richard Ragone, 64, allegedly placed his hands down the victim’s shirt and rubbed her breasts on November 30 after going to her room to change a light bulb. A coworker at the Loudonville Home for Adults in Loudonville, New York, caught Ragone molesting the woman. Ragone is a Level 3 sex offender who spent more than 16 years in prison for raping and sodomizing a Saratoga County woman in 1983. Nursing home officials fired Ragone after learning about the incident, and he confessed the crime to police in a statement, the Times Union reported.

In 1984, Ragone was convicted of first-degree rape, sodomy, and attempted sexual abuse and was sentenced to 12½ to 25 years in prison. He came off parole in 2008, and was hired at the home that same year. Ragone has been charged with endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person, a felony, and misdemeanor sexual abuse. He is currently being held in the Albany County Jail on $25,000 bail, according to the Times Union.
