Brian P. DiGeorgio, of Watervliet, NY, has filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court against Hannaford Supermarket’s Latham Farms alleging he suffered salmonella poisoning on November 7, from beef that was later recalled. For two days after ingesting the tainted meat, DiGeorgio suffered abdominal cramps, fever, and diarrhea. He was taken to a local hospital where he lapsed into a coma, and spent time in the Intensive Care Unit. He was kept in the hospital until November 23.

Hannaford announced a recall of all ground beef with a “sell-by” date of December 17 or earlier, the Times Union reported.

In the lawsuit, DiGeorgio says he was sickened with salmonella poisoning from the beef purchased from Hannaford, and a statement from his attorney says that at least 16 people in Maine, New York, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Kentucky, Hawaii, and Vermont have reported being poisoned by salmonella from ground beef purchased at Hannaford Supermarkets between October 12 and November 20.
