A February 13 federal court filing said that Groupon Inc., a daily-deals coupon seller, and plaintiffs have resolved their disagreements regarding the terms of a settlement offer and expect to file the settlement documents by March 12.
The terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
Previously, seventeen lawsuits filed against Groupon Inc., alleging the company and other retailers violated federal and state consumer protection laws through coupon expiry and voucher requirements.
The first lawsuit filed against Groupon said, “Groupon effectively creates a sense of urgency among consumers to quickly purchase ‘groupon’ gift certificates by offering ‘daily deals’ for a short amount of time….Consumers therefore feel pressured and are rushed into buying the gift certificates and unwittingly become subject to the onerous sales conditions,” Bloomberg reported.
