After Del Monte Fresh Produce submitted an independent audit of the Guatemala farm from which it imports cantaloupes, showing that the farm was following good agricultural practices, and tests that showed no pathogens were infecting the cantaloupes, the FDA lifted an import restriction on the produce.

The Del Monte cantaloupes were linked to a salmonella infection that sickened 20 people in 10 states. The outbreak is not connected to the listeria outbreak that has killed as many as 16 people, and was connected to Colorado grown cantaloupes.

Del Monte issued a statement saying that by lifting the ban, the FDA has showed that it and importers can work together, the New York Times has reported.
