Maxine Chavis has filed a lawsuit against Hamlin Place Rehabilitation Center after her mother, 74- year-old Annie Lou Jefferson was found with multiple bedsores all over her body.

Chavis said she chose that nursing home because it was close to her house and she could go see her mother every day. However, she did not know that her mother was being neglected, the lawsuit says. When Annie Lou was transported to a local hospital for dehydration, a nurse found the bedsores, some as big as grapefruits. Chavis said that she was “so disturbed, and she had a big sore on the back of her head.”

“I believe my mother would still be alive if she would have been treated with love, honor and respect,” said Chavis. Though Annie Lou did suffer from diabetes and other ailments, her family believes the bed sores lead to other problems that contributed to her death, WPTV.com reported.
