Cardiologist Investigated For Fraud

Tennessee cardiologist Dr. Elie Hage Korban along with two hospitals are under investigation by the U. S. Department of Justice after cardiologist Dr. Wood Deming filed a whistleblower lawsuit accusing them of defrauding government insurance programs.

The lawsuit alleges that executives at Jackson Madison County General Hospital and Regional Hospital of Jackson as well as radiologist Dr. Joel Perchik condoned or abetted Korban’s fraud and engaged in illegal kick-backs.

The lawsuit says that Korban recorded false symptoms and ordered unnecessary diagnostic studies and procedures.  Deming also claims that hospital execs attacked physicians who tried to stop the scheme and caused their elimination.

The case is much like one filed last year against Baltimore’s St. Joseph Medical Center regarding 369 patients who received but may not have needed coronary stents under Dr. Mark Midei. In that lawsuit, St. Joe’s did not admit guilt, but paid a $22 million fine. disclaimer: This article: Cardiologist Investigated For Fraud was posted on Tuesday, June 14th, 2011 at 7:10 pm at and is filed under Fraud Lawsuits.
