Binghampton, NY has implemented a fracking ban that some feel is unjust. Pro-drilling stakeholders have hired an attorney to take legal action against the city regarding the ban.
Two weeks ago, the attorney “demanded the city refer its ban to the county’s department of planning for approval,” WICZ News reported. Stakeholders felt the move was necessary because the ban has a definite economic impact for the city and the surrounding areas.
Binghamton responded to the demand by saying it believes it is “within its rights to impose the ban without approval from the county.”
The attorney, who represents many pro-drilling stakeholders, including Vestal Gas Coalition, told reporters that he would be filing a lawsuit in the state Supreme Court within the next few weeks.
