Weeks after the FDA issued a warning about a connection between Actos and an increased risk of bladder cancer, lawsuits began to be filed, with more than 25 cases filed against Takeda Pharmaceuticals in September alone.

Because of the increased risk of bladder cancer for patients who use the drug 12 months or more, some counties in Europe have called for an Actos recall. In the United States, the type 2 diabetes drug is still on the market with warnings about the cancer risks.

A request has been filed with the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation has been filed asking that all Actos cancer lawsuits filed in the United States be consolidated before Judge G. Patrick Murphy in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.

Takeda Pharmaceuticals has filed a request asking for more time before being required to file their response. A hearing has been scheduled for oral arguments in December of this year.
