Jerrold Parker, Managing Partner of the national law firm Parker Waichman LLP, has been appointed to the Plaintiffs Steering Committee in the consolidated litigation against Takeda Pharmaceutical Co regarding the allegations that its Actos diabetes drug causes bladder cancer. Bloomberg estimates that Takeda may face up to 10,000 Actos lawsuits in the United States before it’s all said and done.

The lawsuits were consolidated in U.S. District Court, Western District of Louisiana, Lafayette under U.S. District Judge Rebecca Doherty in December. Court filings list the first hearing regarding the lawsuits on March 22.

Judge Doherty posted a notice on the court’s website on March 12 that said, “The court has determined to effect the selection of lead counsel, liaison counsel and plaintiffs’ executive and steering committees before the March 22nd-23rd status conference.”

Actos is to type 2 diabetes drug that U.S. regulators linked to bladder cancer last year. The lawsuits claim that patients who use Actos have an increased risk of developing bladder cancer and that drug manufacturers Takeda and Eli Lilly & Co withheld information regarding those risks and failed to provide physicians and consumers with adequate warnings. disclaimer: This article: 19 Plaintiffs’ Attorneys Selected to Lead Actos Cancer Litigation was posted on Wednesday, March 14th, 2012 at 7:33 pm at and is filed under Defective Drug Lawsuits.
